My interest in making art
arises
from an urge to communicate and bond
with the people around me. Through my pieces I aspire to connect with
my audience and to affect – even briefly – their perception and
emotional state. I need to do something that hasn’t been done or seen
before, to state clearly who I am through my work, to exchange my
vision with fellow artists, to surprise my viewer. As the Unexpected
pleases me in my life I like to re-create something similar for the
people around me.
Exploring the several media belonging to the visual arts, I encountered diverse ways of creating images, selecting the ones that most suited me. Along the way, my initial love for the discipline of drawing has never exhausted itself, evolving in other practices such as painting and printmaking. Modulating a line on paper is a sensual pleasure both for the hand and for the eye, for the maker and the viewer. This pleasure translates easily and acquires an innate longevity through the prints of metal matrixes. Photography is another technique that seduced me with its possibilities of capturing instants. Through this medium I became able to immortalize moments and images, my daily encounters with aesthetic shocks that I can now share with my viewers. My passion for photography subsequently lead to an interest in the making of videos, where instead of capturing a given situation that strucks me in its unexpectedness, I have to compose and frame more actively the subject for the camera. But all of the above is just words. |
